Happy birthday Bill Murray!
The great man is 60 years old. I’m a day early, I know. But I won’t be around tomorrow. Here he is manhandling a Letterman heckler back in the early 1990s. And here’s that great GQ interview in which he admits he only did Garfield because he was under the impression that it would be a Coen brothers movie. Also here’s Murray promoting Ghostbusters on Letterman in 1984 (parts one and two) and, while we’re at it, the film itself.

That GQ interview immediately entered the showbiz canon. Great that such a maverick can still be his own man and command the respect he does in the era of shitty five minute promo interviews in front of movie posters.

And Groundhog day is the best Hollywood feelgood comedy since It’s a wonderful life.

The guy in the blue shorts who thinks this is real is a “harrowing indictment” on gay rights in mid 90’s America. He is the awkward interlude between Streets of Philadelphia and Don’t ask, Don’t tell.
