Runaway (2010)

Top ten lists are the opposite of everything I love about music. But for what it’s worth, this is the track released this year that I’ve listened to the most times on iTunes. The expletives edited out (for reasons beyond my control) here are: “assholes”, “douchebags”, “putting up with my shit just way too long” and “sent this bitch a picture of my dick.” Nice. Oddly enough, my second most listened to track of the year also involves people frolicking around warehouses in formal attire.

I am getting numb to this song through my brothers near religious blasting it at any opportunity between 5pm Friday and 6am Sunday. Obsessed don’t come into it. He has some drunken spiel about the heartbroken bassline and it remindining him of New Order who did vulnerable/egotistical so well too.

    It is a choon though.

  2. Ponyo Says:

    Chi-town

  3. brendan Says:

So do you think he’s serious about repenting for his sins? Personally I think hes way more fun as a douchebag, ye big old douchebag asshole Kanye!

  4. gueuleton Says:

Not to mention the whole balla-nigger matrix (whatever that may be.)

  5. gueuleton Says:

P.S. I do rather enjoy the line “Sent this girl a picture of my HEEY”!!

  6. Eoin Says:

@ Darragh – Ciaran obviously has more reasons to sing it than most. (Joke!)

@ Ponyo – Urban dictionary tells me Chi-town is Chicago. Beyond that… huh?

@ Brendan – Where does he say he’s repenting for anything? I was telling someone recently this song reminds me of Hank Williams’ When God Made Me He Made Ramblin’ Man.

He’s acknowledging that he’s an asshole, but he’s not apologising for it, let alone offering to repent. He’s saying this is me. Take it or leave it, bitch.

@ Gueuelton – Words of course have no intrinsic meaning of their own. Say HEEY enough times in that context and you’ll make it a dirty word.

  7. Ponyo Says:

He’s just saying it almost constantly. Took me a while to realise what it was. Usually in the “Hey yo turn it up this one goes out to all my whoevers” bit during the intro or outro of a tune

  8. brendan Says:

@ Eoin – Kanye has hurt you in the past hasn’t he?
