TODAY ON THE INTERNET I LEARNED…
1. That Robert Llewellyn from Scrapheap Challenge and Kryten from Red Dwarf are the same person.
2. That Donald Rumsfeld is an even scarier man that had been already suspected (albeit with zero flair for graphic design).
3. And that, perhaps unsurprisingly, Jamie Foxx will not be playing Frank Sinatra in Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming biopic.

Wayyy ahead of you, Eoin. As a teen I read Robert Llewellyn’s biography ‘The Man in the Rubber Mask’. It was totally shit.

But they’re so different? I only found out yesterday Andreas and I was literally speechless. For about 30 minutes.

I know. I remember being very disappointed when I first saw his real face. They’ve made a new series of Red Dwarf and they’re all inexcusably old now. Even Kryten looks kind of fat. Which is pretty odd for a robot… I thought.

I actually met Craig Charles at the BBC with Republic of Loose about five years ago. He was pretty cool. They were trying to make out that they were from the wrong side of the tracks sorta thing. He was like, “Lads, you’re from feckin Terenure!”
Turned out he’d lived in Dublin for a few years.

Hah, nice. I have come a cropper of Republic of Loose/Johnny Pyro “wrong side of the tracks” attitude a few times myself. One evening, a member of the band sidled up to myself and a group of friends and accused one of our number of having thrown a pair of shoes at him. Ignoring the fact that my friend was quite plainly still wearing a pair of shoes, they set a gang of their mates on us. Mates who quite clearly were from the wrong side of the tracks. I digress. Red Dwarf is awesome. The 2 guys who wrote the series wrote a few novels based on the series and they were actually deadly. Word.

Well, if you wanna start telling Republic of Loose not-necessarily-the-nicest-guys-in-the-world stories…
A couple of months ago I was in Hollywood covering an Irish-American pre-Oscar party for the Irish Times. Kate Winslet and htat really hot girl from Slumdog Millionaire were there. Anyway, lo and behold didn’t I bump into Republic of Loose. Turned out they were playing at the party.
Anyway, I’ve known them for five years. We once all slept on the floor in Bugaloo pub in North London for about a week. I’ve always given them good reviews, not necessarily because I love their music, but just because I admire them for having the balls to do something a bit different. So I kinda thought they might ask if I’d like to join them, seeing as I didn’t know a sinner in the place.
Instead Mick has a go at me for some review in the Irish Times that I don’t even remember writing in which I had the gall to make fun of his fucking jacket in some video. This Irish American guy called Tommy Burns who produced ER ended up talking to me for the night completely out of pity. When he had to go to the bathroom he pointed across the room and said “that’s my wife Cindy over there, go over to her, she’ll talk to you!” The shame….
True story.

Although i must say the bass player Benjamin is pretty sound, he did chat to me for a perfunctory couple of minutes.

He certainly seems the least cretinous member. On a positive note, I once witnessed Michael Pyro reciting the first four tracks off DoggyStyle, back to back, without taking a breath, whilst absolutely balloobas. Impressive really. That girl from Slumdog Millionaire is disturbingly attractive.
