Polls and top tens lists and all that crap, whether compiled by critics or voted for by “the public”, are all inherently arbitrary and silly. The only exception to this rule is when my favourite show, The Sopranos, is rightfully anointed the greatest television series of all time. The Wire is fantastic.
Far better than The Sopranos.
And that’s not an insult to the pseudo Mafia warlords, it’s still a great show.
A TV that took me by surprise is Mad Men.
All three seasons are quite brilliant.
And it featured in the number 4 slot on the Guardian Poll, a feat that impresses me to an emphatic degree.

The Sopranos is the greatest tv series of all time. But, i think that list is shiiiit, The Wire and The Sopranos are two completely different beasts and The Wire is bloody brilliant.

I think exactly what Kate thinks. The Sopranos is the best TV show ever, but you are still wrong about the Wire, not least because I’m not even fond of McNulty, he’s a cunt.
If you were to have said “that junkie with a heart of gold you’re all so fond of limps in at 14”, you’d not only be closer to the truth, but you’d also have accurately represented Bubbles’ walking style.

It’s a weird Top 50, Coronation, Eastenders, Brookside, Grange Hill all made the list.
Let’s draw a line, McNulty and find some new entertainment. Telly that’s new/still running that isn’t on the list. Burn Notice, White Collar, Breaking Bad and Dexter, several I enjoy.

I think you’ll find you’re wrong there, duplicating comments is THE thing to do for 2010. I should know – I’m on the pulse of all things new and trendy. (Hang on, just need to flip over the Blue Rodeo cassette in the tape deck) But no, still haven’t seen The Sopranos so will gracefully exit on that note.
