THE BROAD MAJESTIC SHANNON (1988)

There aren’t too many songs that make me cry every time I hear them. Of course, then again, there aren’t many songs I only listen to when I’m paralytic drunk…

Incidentally, my friend Conal posted on here before about misheard lyrics. First time I heard this song as a kid, I thought it said “Where we once watched the robots landing / on the broad majestic Shannon…”

    It’s actually “row boats…”

    Though I still prefer robots.

  2. Darragh Says:

yeah and since when did row boats ‘land’ anyway? robots is deffo the more realistic option for a kid.

My favourite weepy Pogues song is a pair of brown eyes.

Oh no Darragh, in the west at least, everything lands – cars, bicycles, uncles etc.

c.f. “Would you put the kettle on for God’s sake. And your poor auld uncle only after landing in from the field…”
